"Intercession" is simply the act of "interceding." According to Webster to "intercede" means : "to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences : mediate" Basically when we intercede for someone we come between that person and the Lord - on their behalf. Imagine yourself in a big courtroom. You are the lawyer. You come before the judge and plead another's case. We have all seen lawyers rise up with passion, urgency, and concern for their clients. They have a desire to fight the battle out in court and win the case. In the same sense they have a great respect for the judge. That is what intercession is all about.

"Then the king said to the man of God, "Intercede with the LORD your God and pray for me that my hand may be restored." So the man of God interceded with the LORD, and the king's hand was restored and became as it was before." 1 Kings 13:16

As believers in Christ, God has given us the ability to pray for one another - to intercede for one another. Not only do we have the ability and authority to do so but the Bible gives us clear direction that we should.
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
James 5:16

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." Romans 8:26

When we are unsure of what to pray for, the Holy Spirit intervenes for us and helps us to pray. In our weakness the Lord is strong. We don't have to be the greatest prayer warrior in the world in order to intervene - we just have to be willing to fall on our faces - the Holy Spirit will do the rest.
